Innova 3340 Review
Innova 3340 multimeter is an automotive digital multimeter intended for use by experienced amateurs and semi professionals. Innova 3340 can be used to measure various automotive functions, including temperature. I was honestly surprised when I found out that the tempreature measuring probes were actually accurate because such an occurence is very rare for the multimeters in this price range. This series is still relatively new on the market and it is still in its original form – it hasn’t been improved yet.
This product is intended for use by various individuals who work in the automotive industry. To be more precise – car mechanics, car enthusiasts and trainees in industrial automotive settings will benefit the most from this model.
Innova 3340 isn’t for complete amateurs, nor is it for professionals in the industrial environment. This multimeter is the bridge that connects the two poles and should be bought if the user is looking for something to begin with, or for non-professionals, for something to upgrade to.
Innova 3340 is one of the best, if not The Best Automotive Multimeter On The Market in its price range and if you are looking for a multimeter that costs around seventy to ninety dollars, I highly recommend that you get one as soon as possible.

In the package are the multimeter, instruction manual, RPM probe, temperature probe, multimeter test leads, and the case. Everything needed for the operation comes in the box and all probes measure as precisely as they should. There still is room for improvement, but for this price, this multimeter is the best.
The name of that improvement is ‘test lead alligator clips’ – that doesn’t come with the package. I don’t know how could they make such an oversight, especially when you take into account that this is an automotive multimeter and alligator clips are the most basic piece of equipment required for conducting measurements on anything in the car.
Innova 3340 is designed to locate and treat engine problems and you can see that on the amount of detail dedicated to those functions. Although you can use it to test wires and continuity, those features are not as precise as they should be.
You can test alternator diodes, measure resistance and continuity, you can measure the temperature and RPM of the engine, check the vehicle battery and fuses and all of this can be measured with an auto-ranging scale.
The function that I am delighted with is the temperature measurement. This multimeter comes with the temperature measuring probes and with caps for those probes. This function is accurate and can measure in Fahrenheit and Celsius scales.
The gauge adjusts automatically as you measure so there is no need to manually adjust settings, although you can do that too if you want to. The black background doesn’t help with conducting work in dim-lit environments and the amount of backlight isn’t sufficient for you to be able to read with accuracy and on the fly while working at night.
While checking the household batteries, your job will be a lot faster and easier with this multimeter, because it has three visible light-emitting diodes that show you the amount of juice that you have left in the battery. The green one is for full, the yellow one lights up when there is just a little bit left and the red one means that your battery is empty.
In terms of safety, this multimeter is made of reinforced plastic, comes with a quality fuse and has sturdy rubber corner guards that look and feel very durable.
The inductive clamp that can be measured with an auto-ranging scale per minute also measures precisely and will remain operational for a very long time if treated properly.
When you measure the car battery, the probes can sometimes meltdown, so be extra careful while doing that. I highly recommend that you wear gloves when you measure the amount of juice in the car battery. In fact, use gloves when you are measuring anything in the car because you never know what could happen.
The continuity meter is precise and accurate. If you press the probes together for a moment, the multimeter will produce a beeping sound immediately.
The thing that bothers me is the bad, cheap battery that is shipped with this multimeter, but I think that that’s acceptable when you take into account everything else that checks out. Although all functions measure precisely and correctly, they can be erratic for a moment, on rare occasions. The solution is to turn the multimeter on and off.
Innova 3340 isn’t CAT III or CAT IV certified, so that is a very important downside.
This multimeter is easy for use, all that you need to do is plug the probes in and turn the dial on the correct setting for the required measurement.
I don’t recommend that you carry the multimeter on the belt in the case that comes shipped with it because everything fits very snuggly and I think that you can bend the probes just a little bit too much accidentally while walking. Luckily, even if you do that, you can get new replacement probes in most of the stores that sell multimeters and they will work just like the original.

I recommend the Power Probe CAT IV digital automotive multimeter as an alternative (Check Price on Amazon.com) because of the obvious and most important downside of the Innova 3340 and that is the lack of CAT III and CAT IV certification, which is a must if you are working on cars and car batteries.
Other than that, this multimeter is the best on the market. And don’t get me wrong, there are plenty more multimeters out there that are more precise and made of more quality material, but for this price and in terms entry-level professional multimeters, this one is definitely the best.
